Anisotropic structures in boundary layer clouds
Many boundary layer clouds possess quasi-linear features, such as rolls,
cloud streets etc. We are interested in obtaining information about
such structures from satellite imagery. Many questions remain as to
the structural properties of boundary layer clouds: What are the
key processes determining cloud mesoscale structure? How ubiquitous
are rolls and other quasi-linear features? Do structures align with
the wind? Is shear important?.
The following test images demonstrate the enormous variety of boundary
layer cloud structures and
are used to validate and experiment with
retrievals of cloud structural properties.
