Course description from the course catalog:

Basic equations governing atmospheric motions and their elementary applications; circulation and vorticity; basic dynamics of midlatitude disturbances. Prerequisite: AMATH 353 or MATH 309; MATH 324.

  • Holton, J.R., and G. J. Hakim, 2013: Introduction to Dynamic Meteorology, 5th Edition. Elsevier.

Goals:

  • provide a foundation for understanding weather systems.
  • develop problem solving ability.

Evaluation:

  • Weekly quizes: 50%.
  • Comprehensive final exam: 25%.
  • Weekly homework: 25%.

Weekly schedule:

  • Monday: quiz review and lecture.
  • Wednesday: homework review (I will answer specific questions) and lecture.
  • Friday: lecture and quiz (~20-30 min).
