Boundary formed up 40-60 km west of S-Pol oriented N-S. P-3 performed box pattern. The Falcon and Lear did coordinated E/W at 37N. Initial Lear dropsonde leg at 1810. King Air set up tracks in BL orthogonal to N/S P-3 track. Cells formed along the boundary in NW KS and propagated southward along it. Boundary seen on S-Pol and ELDORA. Second Lear drop track at 1852. S-Pol documented boundary intersection with severe cell to north in region of a developing tornado. Model
King Air, P-3, Learjet Dropsondes, SMART-R, X-Pol, DOWs, S-Pol, ISS Radiosondes, MGLASS, MCLASS, FC, Mobile Mesonet, MIPS, DRI, SRL Minor cold front and dryline. ELDORA not on-line until after 19Z. Leandre overheated at 2040Z and did not work for remainder of flight. King Air worked in the area of the boundary by 18Z. Ground crews deployed in the area of Garden City and by 2000Z measurement underway at 37 deg 36 min and 101 deg 4 min. Learjet dropsonde legs at 1830Z and 2110Z orthogonal to the boundary. 19 June CI 1700 2300 NW Kansas Operational
Research
Model
King Air, P-3, Learjet Dropsondes, SMART-R, X-Pol, DOWs, S-Pol, ISS Radiosondes, MGLASS, MCLASS, Reference Radiosonde, NWS Radiosondes, FC, Mobile Mesonet, MIPS, DRI, SRL, GLOW Cold frontal boundary (evident on radar) oriented NNE-SSW near Goodland, KS moved toward Colby, KS. Not clear if this cold front or dryline based on observations. At 2000 UTC deep convection broke out in SE CO along an extension of this boundary and further convection formed along the boundary to the NNE. The P-3 boxed the boundary and captured evolution of convective initiation. King Air sampled boundary using its standard pattern. Learjet dropped a single line of 8 sondes.

Research
Model
P-3, King Air, S-Pol, DOWs, MCLASS, MGLASS, ISS Radiosondes, NWS Radiosondes, TAOS, FC, Mobile Mesonet, MIPS, DRI, SRL, GLOW, HARLIE Clear skies. Wind speeds 15 kt at surface 20-25 kt at 850mb. Focus on 70kmX10km region centered on Homestead. Despite borderline winds TAOS operated throughout mission. P-3 with sideward pointing Leandre II, ELDORA kept off through flight as no clear air winds. King Air had dual flight mission and flew in trail on right side of P-3 for in-situ verification of L2. DRI MMR drove E-W legs throughout mission and observed little variability of TPW. A contrasting dataset to first BLE mission which had lighter winds but some cloud cover.

King Air dual flight mission with E-W legs across refractivity region. Great dea of variability in pre-CBL and CBL structure. P-3 had engine problems and did not take off until 1630Z. Also showed great deal of moisture variability at 14500 ft MSL. Leandre and ELDORA showed highly variable structure in CBL. Planes were coordinated on their E-W legs with downward-pointing L2. Good TAOS day with continuous P, T, H and winds from surface to 300m early and surface to 500 m late. MIPS clearly observed CBL growth. Hourly soundings from MCLASS and 2 MGLASS, and 2-hourly soundings from ISS. DOWs took data to north and south of S-Pol for dual-Doppler measurements over much of aircraft tracks.
