1. Product changes since MATLAB 5.2
   --------------------------------

   1.1 Release naming
       --------------

The release name is designated by a string that starts
with a 'R' instead of the MATLAB version. This means
that each MathWorks product has an associated release
       name with it.

   1.2 New products
       ------------

Note: 1. The MATLAB Tour is considered part of MATLAB and
is not separately licensed. It can be deselected
in a CD-ROM installation. It is part of the file,
                matlab.common, in a FTP installation.
             2. The SystemBuild to Simulink Translator is
considered part of Simulink and is not separately
licensed. It can be deselected in a CD-ROM
installation. It is part of the files
                tbx.simulink.common and ARCH/tbx.simulink.ARCH
                in a FTP installation.

             Name Unsupported architectures
       Symbolic Toolbox sgi64*

                                      sgi sgi64 lnx86

*Use sgi version on sgi64. See section 5.2.2 in the
Appendix of the UNIX News file for MATLAB 5.1
        (README.news51) for details.

2. Architecture support changes
   ----------------------------

MATLAB was 'stabilized' on the sun4 (Sun Sparc SunOS 4)
platform with MATLAB 5.2. There is no support on the sun4
for MATLAB R11 and future versions of MATLAB.

3. Changes to operating system build list since MATLAB 5.2
   -------------------------------------------------------

There are two changes in the table below since MATLAB 5.2.

            Platform Build OS version
            -------- ----------------
    Sun Sparc (sol2) Solaris 2.5.1
    HP 9000 PA-RISC (hp700) HP-UX 10.20
DEC Alpha (alpha) Digital UNIX 4.0D*
    IBM RS/6000 (ibm_rs) AIX 4.2
    Silicon Graphics (sgi) IRIX 6.3
    Silicon Graphics (sgi64) IRIX64 6.4
    Linux (lnx86) Linux 2.0.34*

    * changed since MATLAB 5.2

See section 2. in the Appendix of the UNIX News file for
    MATLAB 5.1 (README.news51) and MATLAB 5.0 (README.news50)
for additional details about OS version checking.

4. Operating System patch requirements
   -----------------------------------

A patch list is under development.

5. Install MATLAB R11 over MATLAB 5.x
   ----------------------------------

If you already have MATLAB 5.0 or MATLAB 5.1 or MATLAB 5.2, it
is recommended that you install MATLAB R11 over that version.
   Obsolete files will be removed.

IMPORTANT: Do not install MATLAB R11 over an older version if
you need to preserve MATLAB on the sun4. Sun4
specific files for MATLAB 5.2 or earlier will be
considered obsolete and will be removed.

The updating process uses file lists in the $MATLAB/update/pd
directory saved from installing an earlier version of MATLAB.
If those have been removed or damaged then the removal of
   obsolete files will be incomplete.

NEVER install MATLAB R11 over any MATLAB 4.x or earlier MATLAB
version. DO NOT install MATLAB R11 over any MATLAB 5.x alpha or
beta release, ONLY over the official MATLAB 5.x release.

Scripts that are configurable by the user such as
$MATLAB/bin/.matlab5rc.sh will be updated. See section 3.
in the Appendix of the UNIX News file for MATLAB 5.1
(README.news51) for details about the update procedure.

6. License manager changes
   -----------------------

6.1 license files use just INCREMENT lines
       --------------------------------------

All new license files provided by the MathWorks now
       have only INCREMENT lines.

   6.2 port@host support in .matlab5rc.sh file
       ---------------------------------------

The factory setting for LM_LICENSE_FILE in the file,
       $MATLAB/bin/.matlab5rc.sh, has been returned to:

           LM_LICENSE_FILE='$MATLAB/etc/license.dat'

under each architecture section. It was:

           LM_LICENSE_FILE='1700@BOGUS:$MATLAB/etc/license.dat'

in MATLAB 5.2. The existence of 1700@BOGUS caused serious
delays on startup of MATLAB on some customer networks.

To add port@host follow the directions in the file under
each architecture section. If you are using redundant
servers, use a colon separated list of three port@host values.

7. Comments about operating system and tool requirements
   -----------------------------------------------------

   7.1 hp700 (HP-UX)
       -------------

       7.1.1 Loader needed by MATLAB
             -----------------------

             MATLAB requires the C++ loader:

                 /usr/lib/aCC/dld.sl

be installed on each machine running MATLAB.
Otherwise, MATLAB will not start. This
is detected in the MATLAB startup script.

             The installation instructions, README, and
the loader file are located in:

                 $MATLAB/sys/os/hp700/mipc

8. System libraries shipped in the $MATLAB/sys/os directory and
   ------------------------------------------------------------
   used by MATLAB
   --------------

   sol2:

       sys/os/sol2/libF77.so.3
       sys/os/sol2/libM77.so.2
       sys/os/sol2/libsunmath.so.1

   hp700:

       sys/os/hp700/libCsup.1
       sys/os/hp700/libstd.1
       sys/os/hp700/libstream.1

   sgi:

       sys/os/sgi/libaudio.so.1

   sgi64:

       sys/os/sgi64/libcomplib.sgimath_mp.so
       sys/os/sgi64/libaudio.so.1

       sys/os/lnx86/libXpm.so.4.9
       sys/os/lnx86/libc.so.5.4.38
       sys/os/lnx86/libg++.so.27.2.8
       sys/os/lnx86/libm.so.5.0.9
       sys/os/lnx86/libstdc++.so.27.2.8

9. CD-ROM installation
   -------------------

9.1 Two CD-ROM's shipped with UNIX
       ------------------------------

Two CD-ROM's are shipped with the UNIX distribution.

One CD-ROM holds just program files for all products
and the other holds the documentation files for all
       products.

The CD-ROMS are independent and the order in which
you install files from them does not not matter.
