Peter N. Blossey

Research Associate Professor

Research Interests: Cloud-Aerosol Interactions, Cloud Feedbacks, Deep convection, Kilometer-scale and large eddy simulations, Water Isotopologues, Numerical Methods.

My work and that of my group focused on better understanding cloud, aerosol and precipitation processes in earth's atmosphere. A main tool in our work is the analysis of numerical simulations of the atmosphere in models with grid spacings of kilometers or smaller. Such simulations resolve smaller-scale convective, mixing and turbulent processes that are difficult to represent approximately (parameterize) in larger-scale global climate models. Much of this work is collaborative, including with the groups of Rob Wood, Lynn McMurdie and Dennis Hartmann at the University of Washington, Mike Pritchard at UC Irvine, and Daehyun Kim at Seoul National University.

Webcam images from the Barbados Cloud Observatory, which is run by the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology. Among the things I study are clouds like those that are typical at this location.
